Corrosion-Resistant Metals for Process Equipment
01 · Industry Overview

Where Material Performance Matters

Chemical equipment reliability depends on the specific combination of concentration, temperature, contamination, pressure, flow, and crevice conditions. Titanium, nickel alloys, and zirconium each occupy a different corrosion window and should be selected against verified process data.

02 · Material Families

Titanium, Nickel & Zirconium

These materials are not interchangeable. The correct choice depends on the component, media, temperature, loading, joining route, and governing specification.

Titanium material
Oxidizing Media

Titanium

Titanium performs well in many chloride-bearing and oxidizing environments and supports lightweight process equipment.

Nickel Alloys material
Broad Alloy Range

Nickel Alloys

Pure nickel and nickel-based alloys cover reducing acids, caustic service, high temperature, and mixed process streams.

Zirconium material
Severe Corrosion

Zirconium

Zirconium can provide exceptional life in selected mineral acids, organic acids, and strong alkali service.

Foil, Rod & Wire Applications

A practical sourcing guide for engineers and buyers. Final suitability should be confirmed against the specification, operating environment, and fabrication route.

Material Foil & Strip Rod & Bar Wire
Titanium Corrosion barriers, equipment lining, diaphragms, gaskets, electrode layers, and clad-system outer surfaces. Pump shafts, valve stems, agitator parts, fasteners, electrode connectors, and machined process components. Demister mesh, filtration screens, anode structures, welding filler, woven mesh, and process baskets.
Nickel Alloys High-temperature gaskets, diaphragms, corrosion barriers, brazing foil, rupture elements, and flexible seals. Valve stems, pump shafts, fasteners, reactor hardware, heat-resistant fixtures, and machined internals. Demister pads, filtration mesh, catalyst supports, resistance heating, welding filler, and woven process screens.
Zirconium Critical lining, sealing foil, diaphragms, corrosion barriers, and specialty electrode or sensor components. Pump and valve parts, agitator shafts, fasteners, thermowells, and machined components for severe service. Demister mesh, filtration structures, welding filler, specialty screens, and corrosion-resistant internals.

Selection Priorities

  • Review concentration, temperature, contaminants, aeration, velocity, and shutdown conditions together.
  • Do not specify zirconium for fluoride-bearing media without a detailed corrosion review.
  • Plan welding procedure, contamination control, cleaning, and inspection before fabrication.
